A peace treaty signed in 1278 between the Count of Foix and the Bishop of La Seu d´Urgell is the origin of the unique institutional system of Andorra. Since then, more than 700 years of peace and neutrality have shaped the history of this small, landlocked country in the Pyrenees. In 1993, Andorra approved her Constitution and entered the United Nations and the Council of Europe.
Besides being just a 468-km2 country and having less than 70000 inhabitants, there are more than 45 nationalities living together, thus making an open and multicultural society, and at the same time, proud of her identity, her history and her differentiating features.
